This 2.5 hour online course is part 2 of Navigation Sports' Introduction to Orienteering Mapping course. In it, you will learn how to use OCAD's drawing tools. Participants will spend the majority of the class practicing using the software.
In this module you will practice the following:
This class will be taught by Jon Campbell and Jeff Teutsch.
Participants that also sign up for the January 23rd, Starting a map Project course will have a chance to continue the project they set up in that class. If you did not sign up for that class you can work on a project of your choosing or on files provided by the instructor.
This course uses OCAD, which is a paid mapping software but for this course, all participants will be provided with a free license for the duration. Instructions on setting up the software will be provided via email after registration.
Participants do not need previous experience using OCAD.
Participants will be provided with more information about setting up the software after registering.
Using Zoom
A zoom link will be provided to registered participants by email. Please be set up ready to go for the start of class with working audio and the software downloaded and installed so we don't have to take precious course time to sort that out.
Please participate from a laptop or desktop computer so you can use the software as intended. We strongly recommend you also connect to zoom from a second device so you can follow the instructor on zoom while using your computer to practice the skills being presented.
Cost: $60 + tax
Please note there is an online processing fee of $3.88 on top of the advertised price.
Sign up for this class along with the January 23rd Starting a Map Project class and the February 6th Laying out Your Map class to get a $27 discount (15%) on all three classes.
This course is designed for new mappers or for mappers that don't have a lot of experience with OCAD and want to learn more. If you are wondering if this course is for you, you can email jeff@navigationsports.ca. About a week prior to the start of the class we will send out a quick questionnaire asking about your orienteering and mapping experience and what you want to get out of the class to help us tailor our teaching for you.
