This 2.5 hour online course is part 4 of Navigation Sports' Introduction to Orienteering Mapping course. In it, you will practice adding new colours and symbols in the mapping software while adding key map elements to prepare your map for printing.
This module is set-up as a tutorial-style practice. Participants will also be provided with a take-away reference to use in future projects.
* Instances of this course will use either OCAD or OOM.
This class will be taught by Jon Campbell and Jeff Teutsch.
This class will work in OCAD.
This course uses OCAD, which is a paid mapping software but for this course, all participants will be provided with a free license for the duration. Instructions on setting up the software will be provided via email after registration.
Participants should have previously participated in a Using OCAD course or have previous experience mapping with OCAD.
Participants have the choice of working with files provided by the instructor or their own files. If you are bringing your own files make sure you have the following easily accessible:
Using Zoom
A zoom link will be provided to registered participants by email. Please be set up ready to go for the start of the class with working audio and the software downloaded and installed so we don't have to take precious course time to sort that out.
Please participate from a laptop or desktop computer so you can use the software as intended. We strongly recommend you connect to zoom from a second device so you can follow the instructor on zoom while using your computer to practice the skills being presented.
Cost: $60 + tax
Please note there is an online processing fee of $3.88 on top of the advertised price.
Sign up for this class along with the January 23rd Starting a Map Project class and the January 30th Using OCAD class to get a $27 discount (15%) on all three classes.
This course is designed for novice mappers or anyone looking for some tips to finish up their maps in a simpler and cleaner way. If you are wondering if this course is for you, you can email jeff@navigationsports.ca. About a week prior to the start of the class we will send out a quick questionnaire asking about your orienteering and mapping experience and what you want to get out of the class to help us tailor our teaching for you.
