Course Description

This 3-hour course is all about using OCAD’s lidar processing wizard to turn raw lidar files into highly detailed base materials for orienteering mapping. Students will get a walk through of the tool and a chance to practice using it. The second half of the class will focus on learning how to interpret the various base material output by the lidar wizard.

Coming Prepared

This course uses OCAD, which is a paid mapping software but for this course, all participants will be provided with a free license for the duration. Instructions on setting up the software will be provided via email after registration.

Participants do not need previous experience using OCAD.

Using Zoom
A zoom link will be provided to registered participants by email. Please be set up ready to go for the start of the class with working audio and the software downloaded and installed so we don't have to take precious course time to sort that out.

Please participate from a laptop or desktop computer so you can use the software as intended. We strongly recommend you connect to zoom from a second device so you can follow the instructor on zoom while using your computer to practice the skills being presented.

Registration

Cost: $75 + tax

Please note there is an online processing fee of about $4 on top of the advertised price.

This course is designed primarily for mappers that are wanting to learn how to generate base material from lidar so you can set up your own forest projects for fieldwork. If you are wondering if this course is for you, you can email jeff@navigationsports.ca. About a week prior the start of the class we will send out a quick questionnaire asking about your orienteering and mapping experience and what you want to get out of the class to help us tailor our teaching for you.
